    Cobo Arena

Cobo Arena is a multi entertainment complex and convention center in downtown Detroit, Mi.

This arena opened in 1960 and served as the home court for the NBA's Detroit Piston. In 1978, the Pistons moved to the Silverdome in Pontiac, Mi. This arena has still been used as a basketball arena since then serving as a second home to the University of Detroit Mercy basketball teams. It was also home to the Detroit Dogs of the ABA in 2001 and 2002.

This arena is more well known for its music acts. Concerts performed by Madonna, Kiss, Kid Rock, Journey, Bob Seger, and the Doors have all recorded live albulms here. In 2008, rapper Jay-Z held a free concert here for Barack Obama encouraging young people to get out and vote.

This arena also became famous on Jan 6, 1994. With the US Figure Skating Championships going on next door at the Joe Louis Arena, Cobo Arena was used as a facility for the figure skaters to practice. As Olympic hopeful Nancy Kerrigan practiced, a man named Shane Stant jumped out of the crowd and hit Kerrigan in the knee with a baton puting her out of the Championships. The attack was planned by an ex husband of Tonya Harding who was competing with Kerrigan for a shot at the Olympics.
