    DC 4254 20/03/2009 Auckland, NZ

    DC 4254 with Auckland Transport SA/SD Push-Pull Cars at Auckland East, New Zealand on 20/03/2009.

    DC 4254 was built in 1962 at General Motors (EMD), Canada - EMD G12 A1938 as DA 1455 (A1A-A1A, livery:NZGR Carnation/Midland Red, with 3 White strips, PR:1425 hp), entered service 02/11/1962 at Auckland, exported to Australia for rebuild 07/08/1978, rebuilt 02/1979 at Clyde Eng, South Australia - EMD G22AR 79/890 as DC 1575 (livery:NZR `Fruit Salad' International Orange/Yellow BS 08e51/Grey BS 11A11 , overhauled and modified with Low Cab at Clyde Engineering, Australia), renumbered c1979 to DC 4254 and altered 31/08/2004 at Woburn Shops (114/240) (livery:MAXX Dark Blue) .

    SA/SD Push-Pull Cars (ex British Mk 2 Carriages) ran in Auckland for 11 years from 2004 to 2015. 67 SA & 49 SD Carriages are currently in Taumarunui awaiting an overseas buyer. Full Stock List can be found at:-

    85 Class DC GM EMD G22AR Locomotives were rebuilt from GM EMD G12. 80 were rebuilt at Clyde, Rosewater, Adelaide, South Australia between 1978-1983 and 5 were rebuilt at Woburn Workshops, Wellington in 1980/1. 15 DC's were reclassed to DCP (Passenger) from about 2002.

    Only around 30 now in service and the Class probably be withdrawn in the next few years with the completion of DL purchases and the Electrification of Auckland Suburban Passenger Network.
