    The Great Eye

The River Thames is plied by a slow-moving boat as the London Eye sits at a stand-still, resting after the final rotation of passengers has finished disembarking. I lived in England between 1998-2001, working at the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine, situated fairly close to the British Museum in Bloomsbury. Upon this visit, it had been 15 years since I had last set foot in the U.K., and it was a real pleasure to see old friends, meet their children, and see the country in a whole new way. Namely, as a parent.

When I lived in London, I photographed the city only rarely, so I tried to make up for that deficiency this time round. However, two days previously I was knocked flat by a gastrointestinal infection, and had lost 6 lbs unintentionally. Not wanting to stay in bed for too long a portion of our minimal stay, I promised the kids I'd take them to see Parliament at night, and the London Eye. Nausea be damned. Fortunately, everything turned out all right, though I found my trousers suddenly too loose.
