Electrical Tape

Electrical tape

  • Friction tape - Friction tape is a type of adhesive tape made from cloth impregnated with a rubber-based adhesive, mainly used to insulate splices in electric wires and cables. Because the adhesive is impregnated in the cloth, friction tape is sticky on both sides.
  • Myelin sheath - Myelin is a fatty white substance that surrounds the axon of some nerve cells, forming an electrically insulating layer. It is essential for the proper functioning of the nervous system. It is an outgrowth of a type of glial cell.

    Hot-Fitting Habaki

I'm not big on all of the soldering that goes into traditional habaki construction, so I came up with the great idea to forge fit one from copper tube.
The tube used is C101 copper from Onlinemetals.com. I cut a small chunk off just a bit longer than the proposed habaki.
I was pre-heating my kiln for another project, and used it for heating the copper during forging.
First I hammered the tube into a flat oval, then began driving it over the tang using the apparatus shown. This gave me a nice snug fit.

Slings are perhaps my favorite use of e-tape, right there up with velcro on helmets and rolled up sleeves! Also that silver M9 is sexy...Also my edits have revealed the extent of my colorblindness, those hands are clearly of a red color and not brown...
