Delaware and Hudson Caboose Number 35886

Both my Son & my Wife took a short vacation to visit New Jersey in early June 2017 and I asked my son Michael to take some Photographs at the Whippany Railroad Museum along the Morristown & Erie Railway at 1 Railroad Plaza. He actual came home with some great photos and since he used one of my camera's, I will be posting some here on flickr™.

This Photo shows Delaware and Hudson Wood Caboose Number 35886 (Built 1913) and some Former NJT Comet I Coaches in the Morristown & Erie Rail Yard near the Whippany Railroad Museum.

The Whippany Railroad Museum Main Building is located at 1 Railroad Plaza near the intersection of NJ State Road 10 and Whippany Road in Whippany (aka: Hanover Township), New Jersey. The Whippany Railroad Museum is located on the Morristown & Erie Railway Right of way. The Museum runs short excursions on the Morristown & Erie Railroad, such as the Easter Bunny Express, the Pumpkin Festival, Grandparents Day, Health & Wellness Excursion and the Santa Claus Train.

Amtrak & Metro-North Railroad passenger station platform view to the south at Poughkeepsie, New York, Fall 2002

Amtrak & Metro-North Railroad passenger station platform view to the south at Poughkeepsie, New York, Fall 2002. On platform track 1, to the right, is a MNRR commuter train waitng to depart and be pushed by a P32AC-DM locomotive with a cab control car in the lead to New York City. Construction work is being performed along side the low level platform track to the far left. This station, rail line and right-of-way was the former property of the New York Central Railroad and was part of its "Water Level Route."

Amtrak & Metro-North Railroad passenger station with a MNRR commuter train perparing to depart with the locomotive pushing as it heads to New York City from Poughkeepsie, New York, Fall 2002. This is a very busy station located on the former New York Central "Water Level Route, approximately half way between New York city and Albany, New York. Seen in the background is a portion of the old out of service New Haven Railroad (former CNE) Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge over the Hudson River that linked the Eastern states with New England.

Amtrak & Metro-North Railroad passenger station is seen with a MNRR commuter train led by GE P32AC-DM locomotive # 224, while it arrives on platform track 1 at Poughkeepsie, New York, Fall 2002. High level platforms were one of the improvements made to the station. This station and mainline was originally the property of the New York Central system and was part of the "Water Level Route."

Amtrak arriving train and a Metro-North Railroad commuter train are seen in passenger station at Poughkeepsie, New York, Fall 2002. Both trains are bound for New York City. An Amtrak baggage attendant is seen walking down the platform to handle baggage from the arriving train. Seen in the background is a portion of the old out of service New Haven Railroad (former CNE) Poughkeepsie Railroad Bridge over the Hudson River that linked New England to the Eastern States. Amtrak & Metro-North Railroad trains are seen at passenger the station in Poughkeepsie, New York, Fall 2002. The MNRR commuter train is being pushed back toward New York City and the Amtrak train appears to be a regional train heading toward Albany to the north. The old New Haven (former CNE) out of service railroad bridge is plainly seen in the background, however, it is now "Walkway Over The Hudson," a trail open for walkers. This station facility is a mixture of the old rebuilt and new facilities combined to provide modern efficient service.

Some of these old former New Haven washboard electric MU cars are still used for overload demand service. These cars seen in this view haven't been used for some time as incicated by the weeds and bushes growing up around them.

    Last Miles--Fast Miles

Saturday, October 28, 1989 the Chicago Chapter of the NRHS is holding a 'Farewell to the E8' excursion on the C&NW NorthWest Line up to Harvard, IL. I thought about riding, until I heard the Wisconsin Chapter of the NRHS was hosting a passenger special on the Wisconsin & Calumet with the orange and brown F-units...argh--two passenger excursions on the same day with EMD carbodies! I guess the true irony would be that these lead two E8s, RTA 518 and 515 (along with the 521 there third) are now painted in the Illinois Central orange and brown, running excurions for the Iowa Pacific over the former WICT rails, now the Wisconsin & Souithern.

The trio of E8s sure sounded great with those white flags whipped straight back as the train neared the end of it's westward leg just a few miles short of Harvard, IL just before noon on that overcast Saturday that was nearly 25 years ago.
